This report is a resource for all who seek transformative and lasting progress in eradicating chronic poverty, and it will be of real value in getting the social dynamics of poverty better understood. Adolescent girls are usually invisible in development programmes, even those designed specifically for youth and women. By ignoring the social dynamics, which systematically undermine girls’ ambition and agency, we are missing a huge opportunity to solve poverty before it reaches the next generation. The report explains how social norms, beliefs and institutional barriers rob girls and young women of their potential. It provides an evidence-based analysis of why teenage girls’ vulnerabilities in relation to poverty are different to those of boys and to those of adult women.
