Training Opportunity in Leadership and Sustainable Development |
|
Leadership for Environment and Development in Southern and Eastern Africa (LEAD-SEA) is recruiting candidates from Southern and Eastern Africa for its next training programme (2007-08). The programme will be based on the tested LEAD model. It will consist of a number of inter-related activities lasting 30 contact days spread over a period of 12 months in short sessions of 6 to 10 days each. Training calendar - July 2007, Lilongwe, Malawi – Societies in Transition.
- September 2007, Bloemfontein, South Africa – The Population, Environment & Development Nexus.
- November 2007, Bali, Indonesia
Why the training? A principal challenge facing decision makers in all countries is the creation of policies for both environment and development that improve the quality of life for their people. Such policies must transcend traditional boundaries between disciplines, nationalities, cultures and generations. These policies will require innovative thought, sensitive, and creative leadership and management for their development formulation and implementation. As such, a programme focused on strengthening capacities of a new cadre of leaders should include building knowledge of sustainable development and leadership skill enhancement including vision development. LEAD has implemented capacity-building programmes in the last 15 years, through its 14 offices globally. Three programmes are in Africa. LEAD Southern and Eastern Africa based in Zomba, Malawi; LEAD Francophone Africa based in Dakar, Senegal and LEAD Anglophone West Africa based in Lagos, Nigeria.
