SADC Ministers’ Conference on fifteen years of the implementation of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action (PoA) This conference is for Minsters responsible for Population and Development in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Member States, on the fifteen year review of the implementation of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action (PoA). Contact: Olga Mabitsela The Ministers Conference will consider progress with the implementation of the ICPD PoA in the SADC Region, and agree on the region’s population and Development priorities during the next five years, which are also the last five years of the ICPD PoA. To this effect, it should adopt a resolution that will be implemented by SADC Member States and the SADC Secretariat, and by the UNFPA in the region. The Conference will also discuss and adopt a regional report, which will reflect on highlights and challenges of implementing the ICPD PoA over the past fifteen years. The National Population Unit (Chief Directorate Population and Development) and UNFPA are currently working with the SADC Secretariat to produce the regional report. It will focus on the following themes (as were prescribed by the United Nations): Poverty, population and sustainable development; Reproductive rights and reproductive health; Gender equality, equity and empowerment of women; Youth empowerment and adolescent sexual and reproductive health; HIV/Aids, Malaria, TB and other communicable diseases; Population distribution, urbanization and internal migration; International migration; Crisis situation (including wars and natural disasters) and emergency preparedness; Resources mobilization, partnerships and coordination; and Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. The Minister of Social Development will act as host and Chair of the Conference.
