Learning And Teaching Support Material On Population In The School Curriculum

Learning And Teaching Support Material On Population In The School Curriculum

The aim is a learner friendly context for learning and teaching support material on population aspects in the school curriculum that was developed by the Chief Directorate: Population and Development. The material is targeted towards learners from grade 4 to grade 12 for the Social Sciences and Life Orientation learning areas in the school curriculum.

The purpose of developing the population education learning and teaching support material was mainly to assist learners to understand interrelationships between population dynamics, and sustainable development and how this links to their daily livelihood. Some population aspects are identified as part of the school curriculum but there is no specific support material to assist learners to understand and connect the interrelationships between people, their community and the surroundings and how changes in any one of these factors affects development issues.

The design, edit and rewrite of the teaching and learning support material by the curriculum expert will be limited to Social Sciences and Life Orientation support material on population aspects. The service provider will have to edit and design population material that has been developed to enhance knowledge, understanding and contextualization of population dynamics and the interrelationships with development. The support material will all be aligned to the topics selected in the CAPS under Geography and Life Orientation. Using the selected topics the service provider will have to develop the following deliverables;

Learners guides on population aspects for Geography by various grades

Learners workbooks on population aspects for Geography by various grades

Learners guides for population aspects for Life orientation by various grades

Learners workbooks on population aspects for Life Orientation by the various grades

Teachers guide and answer books to population aspects in geography and Life Orientation by various grades.
