INVITATION TO AN EXPERTS’ WORKSHOP: PROGRESS REVIEW OF THE POPULATION POLICY

Progress with the implementation of the White Paper on Population Policy for South Africa (1998) (the Population Policy) is reviewed every five years, and reported to Cabinet. For the current round of evaluation (due in 2019), four thematic papers were prepared by the National Population Unit, in consultation with experts in different fields. The themes of the papers correspond with the four Population Policy priorities of the current term of government, which were approved by Cabinet in 2015. They are:
• Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights;
• Gender equity, equality and the empowerment of women;
• The dynamics of a changing population age structure;
• Migration and urbanisation.

You and/or (a) representative(s) of your department / organisation are kindly invited to participate in an experts’ workshop, at which the papers will be presented for discussion critique and inputs, where after they will be finalised, synthesised and prepared for presentation to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Population Policy in 2018.

The experts’ workshop will take place on 19 – 20 September 2017, in Forum 150, Ground Floor, HSRC Building, 134 Pretorius Street, Pretoria.
