DSD Research in ISRDP/URP Nodes

The purpose of the comprehensive DSD study undertaken in the 21 ISRDP & URP nodes, is to conduct socio economic and demographic baseline studies and situation analyses of social services across all 13 ISRDP and 8 URP nodes, and to assess the status of the Department’s Poverty Relief Programme (PRP) in all 21 nodes, recommending the type and extent of support needed by these projects. Local projects that are part of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) 2nd Country Programme in 10 of the ISRDP nodes will also be monitored and evaluated.

This research project is path-breaking in government as it provides accurate, detailed poverty-related data in all 21 nodes. The project is aimed at informing the Department on how it is currently performing, its shortcomings, what needs to be done to improve service delivery as well as piloting the support processes needed in order to effect change.

The findings of the research study will thus be used to assist the department in developing a better understanding of the social and local economic development as well as service delivery challenges in the nodes and how to address these.
